Santorini on Wheels

If you find yourself on the island of Santorini, take this advice: rent a scooter or 4-wheeler or other wheeled contraption made to tangle your hair into incurable knots, and don't get off it until you are saddle sore and beaten to a pulp by the sun and the wind. There's a whole lot more to this hunk of Aegean rock than a glam, picture-perfect resort town, and you can see the best of it by taking gravelly switchbacks through fields of grapevines.

On our last day, we began by transporting ourselves by bus to a neighborhood near the airport so we could easily get to our 6 am flight the next morning. We got a little lost, but the gas attendant's dog kept us company while we figured things out. She could shake hands and do a cool spin move, and I liked her very much.

We thought about just parking our butts on a beach for the day, but we are both sort of impatient beach loungers, so instead we decided to rent a 4-wheeler and visit all of the beaches! And more! It was so incredibly fun, but I'm just going to post a lot of random pictures for now because I think Matt wants to write another post so he can wax poetic about saffron infused honey and other Grecian delicacies that can be found on the side of the road.

(Matt here, no I'm not peeing. The Aegean had just sneezed on me, and it was chilly.)

Who knows what this is all about.

They just let the grapevines grow wild here, which is pretty fantastic.
